About the Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office
The Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO) is a Principal Staff Assistant (PSA) responsible for the acceleration of the adoption of data, analytics, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to generate decision advantage across the Department of Defense (DoD). The Joint Artificial Intelligence Center (JAIC), Defense Digital Services (DDS), Chief Data Office (CDO), and forward-leaning programs of record including Advana have officially joined together to form one organization – the CDAO! The CDAO is established to enable the Military Departments and Services, Joint Staff, Combatant Commands (CCMDs), Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), and other DoD Components, to swiftly introduce new capabilities and effectively experiment with new operational concepts in support of DoD's war-fighting missions.
The CDAO Algorithmic Warfare (AW) Directorate is charged with the advancement of algorithmic warfare and innovation in the Department’s war-fighting efforts. AW will create opportunities and advance artificial intelligence processes and drive innovative technology to service members. As a Data Engineer serves as a senior technological expert, offering guidance on modeling and simulation techniques, data engineering, and network infrastructure design, ensuring compliance with global standards. The incumbent will lead and assist in the development of solutions for both existing and novel problems, providing technical support across diverse operations, while also producing relevant documentation to support project initiatives.
This position is a DoD Cyber Excepted Service (CES) personnel system position in the Excepted Service under 10 U.S.C. 1599f and does not convey eligibility to be converted to the Competitive Service. This announcement is only open to federal civilians currently employed within the CDAO Algorithmic Warfare Directorate. The pay grade for this role is an Interdisciplinary GG-0854/1550-14 and does have an educational requirement.

Qualifying Experience:
For this position, qualifying experience is defined as: Experience in in providing technical guidance in respect Artificial Intelligence (AI) enabled systems, data science, data analytics and projects, and design and develops infrastructure from requirements to implementation.,
What you'll do here:
Serves as a senior technological expert and source of guidance on the proper use of modeling and simulation techniques utilizing mathematical and statistical techniques, elements of network engineering theory, principles, and innovative efforts to develop new solutions to previously highlighted and/or new problems or problems which may be totally lacking in precedent.Provides data engineering and data technical guidance, governance, frameworks, security, sharing, advisory support, lead and assistance on projects and/or major phases of broad and varied operations.Designs, develops, and implements the CDAO common foundation infrastructure from requirements to implementation (including detailed design, analysis, testing, and optimization) as well as high-availability and multi-layer secure network infrastructures ensuring compliance of network infrastructure to global standards.Creates relevant documentation; such as diagrams, detailed assessments and design documents.As a recognized expert in data engineering, provides technical guidance, advisory support, lead and assistance on projects and/or major phases for broad and varied operations. Performs very complex, difficult assignments on an individual basis or as a team member/leader responsible for completing phases of an overall work effort. Leads or participates in cross-discipline teams working highly complex programs, projects, and/or studies.,

Educational Requirements
Computer Engineer (GG-854): To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor’s degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
Computer Scientist (GG-1550): Bachelor's degree in computer science OR bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
