About the Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office
The Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO) is a Principal Staff Assistant (PSA) responsible for the acceleration of the adoption of data, analytics, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to generate decision advantage across the Department of Defense (DoD). The Joint Artificial Intelligence Center (JAIC), Defense Digital Services (DDS), Chief Data Office (CDO), and forward-leaning programs of record including Advana have officially joined together to form one organization – the CDAO! The CDAO is established to enable the Military Departments and Services, Joint Staff, Combatant Commands (CCMDs), Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), and other DoD Components, to swiftly introduce new capabilities and effectively experiment with new operational concepts in support of DoD's warfighting missions.
The CDAO Algorithmic Warfare (AW) Directorate is charged with the advancement of algorithmic warfare and innovation in the Department’s warfighting efforts. AW will create opportunities and advance artificial intelligence processes and drive innovative technology to service members. The Principal Director of Algorithmic Warfare, oversees the advancement of AI-based decision support systems and warfighter enhancement projects within the Department of Defense, while also leading strategy implementation to align with management objectives. They coordinate a diverse team to develop and deliver AI-enabled capabilities to various military branches and command levels.
This position is a DoD Cyber Excepted Service (CES) personnel system position in the Excepted Service under 10 U.S.C. 1599f and does not convey eligibility to be converted to the Competitive Service. This announcement is only open to federal civilians currently employed within the CDAO. This position is a Supervisory Program Manager, GG-0343-15.

Qualifying Experience:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GG-14 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability to:Manage and oversee the daily operations of a Directorate (or equivalent); and provide expert advice regarding strategy and product management. Analyzing and implementing technical solutions to strategy formulation and operational concepts Communicating complex information, both orally and in writing to provide recommendations to Senior Leadership. ,
What you'll do here:
Directs the development and analytical support of command decision support initiatives for AI-enabled Joint War-fighting capability in the Department of Defense and the Joint Force (e.g., AI Scaffolding, Autonomous Systems, Platform Operations, and AI Tools and Services) as well as several AI-forward warfighter enhancement projects.Leads the development and execution of the directorate strategy and operating model ensuring goals and objectives integrate CDAO and DoD-level management objectives for successful implementation.Directs a cross-functional team of military, civilian, and contract professionals in the development and delivery of Artificial Intelligence (AI) enabled capability to Combatant Commands, the Joint Staff, and Service components.Integrates war-fighting priorities of the Secretary of Defense, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Combatant Commanders, and Service Chiefs with Joint Doctrine, problem statements, strategic issues, research and engineering lab programs, and commercial technology to develop transformative and scalable AI-enabled war-fighting capability.Performs all personnel-related processes such as selecting, rewarding, rating, and disciplining subordinate Division-level managers. Sets priorities and plans schedules for completion of work and accepts, amends, or rejects the work. Exercises position management responsibilities and assures that the position structure is designed to ensure optimum efficiency.Identifies and implements process improvements, improving quality, reducing costs, and establishing appropriate process metrics and process controls for the Directorate.Assesses current levels of efficiency and effectiveness of programs/operations within the Directorate.
