What You’ll Do
- Technology Strategy & Vision: Develop and implement PathAI’s long-term technology strategy and product roadmap, aligning with the company’s goals in AI-powered pathology. Ensure the tech vision supports i.) expanding the AI product portfolio for biomarker discovery, clinical diagnostics, and drug development and ii.) building a world-class AI-native image management system / workflow solution for pathology laboratories while leveraging the latest advances in machine learning and software architecture.
- Product Development & Innovation: Oversee end-to-end development of PathAI’s AI platforms and products. This includes leading the enhancement of our AISight® digital pathology platform and AI algorithms pipeline, to maintain state-of-the-art performance, scalability, and reliability. Drive innovation by evaluating emerging technologies (Machine Learning and Generative AI) and integrating them to keep PathAI’s solutions on the cutting edge of the industry.
- Engineering Leadership & Team Management: Lead, mentor, and scale a world-class technical team including Engineering, Machine Learning, Data Science, and IT functions. Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture that embodies PathAI’s core values.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with other departments and executives – including product management, clinical research, regulatory, and business development – to ensure technology initiatives meet customer requirements
- Technical Operations & Architecture: Oversee the architecture and infrastructure powering PathAI’s products and services, and continually identify and execute against opportunities to drive efficiency and scalability. Ensure robust cloud infrastructure and data pipelines capable of handling large-scale pathology data (e.g. millions of whole-slide images and annotations) and data-center strategy.
- Quality, Security & Compliance: Ensure all technology processes and products comply with healthcare industry standards and regulations while fostering productive partnership with legal, regulatory and quality departments.
- Strategic Partnerships & Representation: Provide technical leadership in external partnerships, customer meetings, demos and collaborations. This includes guiding integration of PathAI’s technology with partner platforms and ensuring smooth technical delivery in biopharma services. Represent PathAI’s technology vision to clients, stakeholders, and at industry events – acting as a thought leader in AI-powered pathology by showcasing our achievements and keeping abreast of industry trends in digital pathology and AI healthcare.
- Design, Implement and maintain robust cybersecurity measures to protect the company's systems, data, and intellectual property from internal and external threats. This includes security protocols, encryption methods, access controls, certification processes and regular security audits.
- Provide leadership and direction for the IT department, overseeing day-to-day operations, help desk support, network administration, system upgrades, and troubleshooting to ensure smooth functioning of all technology systems.
- Drive AI Integration: Lead the strategy and execution of incorporating AI into internal processes, ensuring automation, efficiency, and data-driven decision-making.
What You Bring
- Education & Expertise: Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Biomedical Informatics or a related field (Ph.D. or Master’s preferred), or equivalent practical experience. 10+ years of experience in technology roles, with at least 5 years in senior leadership (CTO, VP of ML/Eng, or similar) driving product development in software or healthcare technology companies.
- AI/ML Proficiency: Proven track record in leading the development of AI/ML-driven products. Deep knowledge of machine learning. Familiarity with modern AI frameworks and tools (e.g. TensorFlow/PyTorch, data analytics, cloud ML services). Experience with large-scale data and model training pipelines is essential
- Proven experience leading the development and scaling of SaaS products globally with a large install base in healthcare, ensuring reliability, security, and compliance in highly regulated environments. Including knowledge of hospital/lab IT environments, such as PACS, LIS (or EMRs/EHRs), and integration protocols like DICOM, HL7, and FHIR. Additionally, familiarity with cloud-based healthcare solutions (AWS, Azure)
- Healthcare/Domain Knowledge: Strong understanding of the healthcare or biotech domain – experience in digital pathology, medical imaging, or diagnostics is highly valued. Knowledge of clinical workflows and challenges in pathology or oncology diagnostics will enable the CTO to align technology with end-user needs.
- Technical Leadership: Exceptional leadership and people management skills, with experience building and motivating high-performing engineering and data science teams. Demonstrated ability to set technical vision and execute complex projects on time and within scope. Skilled in agile development methodologies, project management, and establishing productive engineering processes.
- Strategic Thinking & Communication: Excellent strategic planning abilities with a business-oriented mindset. Capable of translating broad business objectives into a coherent technology roadmap and communicating technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Experience collaborating at the executive level to shape company strategy. Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and the ability to represent PathAI in discussions with partners, clients, and industry forums.
