THE ROLE:
The Legal Department is seeking a highly motivated corporate counsel to join the team supporting AMD’s Adaptive and Embedded Computing Group (AECG). The Corporate Counsel primarily works with the engineering organizations within AECG as product counsel in support of its SoCs, FPGAs, data center and telco acceleration cards, computational storage drives, SmartNICs, SOMs, and related software and AI tools. Additionally, the Corporate Counsel will work with sales, marketing, and business development organizations within AECG to support engagements with customers and other business partners.
THE PERSON:
The ideal candidate should have the ability to work with clients at all levels to achieve a common goal while taking into consideration both legal and business issues. This person should be a self-starter who can work both independently and as a team and who understands when it is appropriate to escalate issues. This person should make sound judgments and recommendations and have excellent verbal and written communication skills but be comfortable using “plain English” to explain complex legal concepts. It is important for this person to be an efficient and effective multitasker while managing workload and competing priorities. Success in this role typically involves a creative problem-solver with a practical, collaborative, and solution-oriented mindset. Ideally, in addition to being a standout colleague with a good sense of humor, this person will possess an intellectual curiosity and a desire to support complex and cutting-edge software and hardware products.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Counsel engineering clients regarding the use of open source software in compliance with policies and procedures.
- Review, draft, and negotiate inbound and outbound software and technology license agreements.
- Review, draft, and negotiate agreements for product sales, services, and support in addition to other customer and business partner contracts.
- Coordinate deal negotiation with internal stakeholders.
- Counsel clients regarding contract terms, compliance, and dispute resolution.
- Develop and provide internal training on legal and compliance topics.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- A junior attorney with both law firm and in-house experience.
- Significant experience in open source licensing and counseling, commercial transactions, and intellectual property law.
- Experience in the computing or semiconductor industry is a plus.
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
- A JD degree and admission to practice law in a U.S. state (California preferred).
