Data Scientist - Product, Technology Strategy

TL:DR : Use data to develop insightful recommendations on strategic directions & specific project opportunities for NRC 2.0 consideration. 

#Profile: Analyst background with significant strategy modeling expertise. Past experience as an i-banking analyst is a plus. Seeking someone who enjoys playing multi-dimensional chess and can clearly and concisely communicate the merits & risks of multiple scenarios. You should be commercially minded with technical fluency, and have good interpersonal skills to handle disparate virtual team working structures. 

  • Partner closely with MLSA Ops and relevant PA teams (both eng and finance) to create unified models for long range planning with the aim of establishing company-wide compute governance. This includes sheets/excel models and the ability to manipulate data in colab. 

  • Perform analysis and research, of technical and business issues associated with potential product ideas or strategic investments. 

  • Help create compelling case for mandates/governance via documents and presentations and right-size information for relevant audiences to drive outcomes 

  • Generally obsess over historical performance data to propose change management (empowered to propose and spearhead new areas of investigation)

  • Propose creative ways to leverage resources most effectively to have massive impact

 
 

Job responsibilities 

  • Create and maintain models of various scenarios for long range planning to inform compute investment and company-wide compute governance aligned with Google’s AI strategy

  • Influence new governance strategies that are sustainable from research, product and financial POVs based on an understanding of current and future workloads

  • Inform strategy development as it relates to the model loop from GDM and Gemini into Google products, including critical areas such as the fine-tuning strategy and serving strategy 

  • Partner with technical leadership and Capital Engineering to understand constraints and scope requirements for programs


Qualifications

Minimum qualifications

You must meet these minimum qualifications to apply for this job

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience in a technical and/or business area

  • Extensive experience in product strategy 

  • Strong analytics, strategy, and data fluency experience 

  • Experience running high impact, strategic programs

  • Experience in a role that deals with machine learning and compute

  • Innovative problem solver that can turn ambiguous problem spaces into clear solutions

  • Ability to influence without direct authority, you adeptly work on and with technical and cross-functional or highly matrixed teams in a way that leads to aligned decision making


Preferred qualifications

Having as many of these specific qualifications is a plus, but transferable skills/experiences may be equally valuable

  • Familiarity with the role of compute and data in building LLMs and the capabilities of these models

  • 5 years in investment banking, consulting, or product strategy work experience in managing highly-complex, technically-challenging projects spanning a wide set of stakeholders

  • Apply a quantitative and analytical mentality to understand Google needs

  • Experience navigating sensitive organizational dynamics

  • Collaborating within data-driven or quantitative-focused teams 

  • A consistent record of creative problem solving and a bias towards action

  • Outstanding business judgment

  • Outstanding organizational, prioritization, and multitasking skills

  • Excellent communication skills

  • A proven track record of building positive relationships with senior stakeholders and influencing strong personalities within a complex business environment

  • Experience in corporate planning

  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent complex interactions with geographically disparate teams

The US base salary range for this full-time position is between $168000 - $266000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your targeted location during the hiring process.
