The role

Working with GDI's leadership, you will lead the Education portfolio, driving AI innovation to accelerate the equitable adoption of GDM technologies and AI-powered learning solutions. You will foster key strategic collaborations, and champion the responsible, inclusive application of AI to create a more effective and accessible future for learning. 

This is an evolving and dynamic area of Google DeepMind with a collaborative, diverse group that partners closely with a wide variety of teams across Alphabet and a range of external partners.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic development and execution of GDI's education portfolio, driving initiatives that advance AI literacy and skills while applying AI to address critical educational challenges. 
  • Collaborate closely with GDM research teams to translate GDM technologies into practical and scalable educational solutions, and drive the delivery of proof-of-concepts to academics, educators and students in diverse learning environments, ensuring a feedback loop for continuous improvement and refinement.
  • Spearhead a portfolio of programs across the full education spectrum, from secondary school to advanced research, designing and scaling initiatives that build AI understanding and cultivate a diverse future AI workforce.
  • Build strategic partnerships with educational institutions, research organizations, NGOs, government agencies, and international bodies to maximize the reach and impact of GDM's education initiatives.
  • Lead collaborations with teams across GDM and Google (e.g., Google.org, Marketing, Communications, Policy) to translate education initiatives into high-impact programs, develop compelling proof points, and enhance visibility and engagement with global audiences.
  • Establish robust frameworks for monitoring, evaluating, and reporting on the effectiveness of education portfolio initiatives, utilizing data to inform strategy and drive continuous improvement.
  • Oversee budgets and resourcing for the education portfolio, manage the team, and work closely with the program manager to optimize resource allocation and ensure efficient operations.
  • Champion GDM's mission to build AI responsibly for the benefit of humanity within the education sector, promoting ethical considerations and responsible AI development and deployment.

About you

In order to set you up for success as the Education Portfolio Lead at Google DeepMind, we look for the following skills and experience:

  • A thought leader with a deep passion for Google DeepMind's mission and a commitment to championing the responsible development and deployment of AI in education.
  • Demonstrable experience in the strategic design, development, and execution of  large-scale programs, including in education and learning, ideally with a technology or AI component, including experience in guiding teams to deliver against strategic objectives.
  • A proven ability to spearhead initiatives across the full education spectrum, from K-12 to advanced research, with a focus on fostering equitable education opportunities and empowering team members to contribute effectively.
  • Expertise in leading cross-functional collaborations, working effectively with teams across research, engineering, marketing, communications, policy, and more to maximize the impact and visibility of education initiatives, with a focus on providing direction and support to team members involved in these collaborations.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and a willingness to understand topics in depth. 
  • Exceptional relationship-building and collaboration skills, with the ability to forge strong partnerships with diverse stakeholders, including educational institutions, research organizations, NGOs, government agencies, and international bodies, while providing guidance and mentorship to team members in managing these relationships.
  • Experience in overseeing budgets and resourcing, effectively managing teams, and ensuring efficient operations through delegation and empowerment.
