The Platform Research team is part of TRI's Human Interactive Driving (HID) division. The aim of the division is to develop technologies that change the way we think about mobility while the aim of the Platform Research team is to build and realize these new customer experiences in real vehicles. As an Electrical Systems Engineer in this team, you will lead the creation of the integrated vehicle concepts that showcase the latest research and technologies from TRI.

Responsibilities

  • Support/Lead electrical system design for research platforms, including architecture and wiring diagrams.
  • Support/Lead embedded and low-level software development for system integration.
  • Oversee hands-on wiring and other electrical work.
  • Support or lead high-voltage electrical design and implementation, including hands-on work.
  • Diagnose and debug electrical problems, such as noise interference, to ensure system reliability.

    Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, with 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong background in mechatronics, including hardware, electronics, and low-level software for hardware control.
  • Proven experience in electrical systems design, with a basic understanding of networking principles.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership in engineering and developing innovative vehicle concepts, with hands-on project execution.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in cross functional team environments.
  • Strong passion for working on building and testing research vehicles.

    Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience in CAN network design.
  • Familiarity with ISO26262 functional safety standards.
  • Proficiency in ROS/ROS2 or similar frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience with dSPACE products for system testing and simulation.
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines to improve development efficiency.
  • NFPA 70e certified
  • The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $139,776 and $209,664/year for California-based roles; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Note that TRI offers a generous benefits package (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave) and an annual cash bonus structure.
