About the Role

As a key member of our Field Engineering team, the first line of defense when hardware issues arise in our vehicles, we're seeking a skilled Field Engineer specialized in autonomous vehicle systems. In this role, you'll be responsible for triaging field issues involving our vehicles, which includes traveling to our vehicle depots or remotely supporting fleet technicians to run diagnostic scripts and use specialized tools for problem-solving. Collaborative work with our software counterparts for accurate diagnoses is a key part of this job. The ideal candidate thrives in leveraging their technical expertise for systematic troubleshooting of both current and next-gen hardware projects. If you excel in a fast-paced start-up environment and are driven to shape the future of autonomous technology through translating field findings into actionable insights, we encourage you to join our team.

About the Work

  • Collaborate with fleet, operations, and engineering teams to triage vehicle hardware issues.
  • Maintain and improve the reliability of current vehicle autonomy systems, including all electrical and mechanical aspects of our autonomous sensing and actuation platform, as well as the base vehicle itself.
  • Coordinate tools and resources needed for a timely debugging and resolution of issues; this includes understanding the relationship between various vehicle components and their interaction on the communication network.
  • Prepare reports and documentation to guide future hardware design improvements, with a clear emphasis on vehicle integration within a software environment.
  • Provide support for remote operation sites and deliver technical guidance for troubleshooting efforts.
  • Understand advanced fault detection and reporting schemes in the automotive domain.

About You

  • 3+ years experience in Test planning and experimental design, especially designing for safety and repeatability.
  • Experience in hands-on troubleshooting at circuit board and module system levels, including systems integrated within a CAN network.
  • Bachelor or Master's degree in a relevant engineering or a related field (including ME, EE, CS, Robotics, Controls, Aerospace) or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with vehicle CAN protocol, or vehicle harness design.
  • Understanding of autonomous driving vehicles, infrastructure, and operations.

Bonus Points

  • Experience in data analysis and test scripting/automation experience (C/C++, Python, Matlab/Simulink).
  • Understanding of systems engineering principles such as defining requirements and formal verification and validation.

At Nuro, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. For this position, the reasonably expected base pay range is between $103550 and $154850 for the level at which this job has been scoped. Your base pay will depend on several factors, including your experience, qualifications, education, location, and skills. In the event that you are considered for a different level, a higher or lower pay range would apply. This position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus, equity, and a competitive benefits package.
