About the Team

OpenAI’s mission is to ensure that general-purpose artificial intelligence benefits all of humanity.

Our Communications team is composed of PR/Media Relations, Events, Design, and other external-facing functions. The team’s ethos is to support OpenAI's mission and goals by clearly and authentically explaining our technology, values, and approach to safely building powerful AI.

The Events team is a dynamic and ethos-driven group dedicated to crafting one-of-a-kind and extraordinary experiences that encompass OpenAI’s values and mission. Our team is driven by a deep passion for shining the spotlight on others and bringing people together to connect in meaningful ways.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Events Manager to join our growing team and lead OpenAI events across Japan. This role will also provide significant support for events in APAC and abroad. We’re looking for someone with proficiency in both Japanese and American event production – and a strong emphasis on Japanese cultural nuances. An interest in artificial intelligence and a passion for designing unique, memorable experiences are also a must.

This role combines positive energy, creativity, strong collaboration, organization, and attention to detail. It requires flexibility, quick decision-making, and the ability to lead multiple cross-functional projects. The ideal candidate will have experience managing projects involving senior leaders and high-profile guests.

As an Events Manager, you will build, manage, and execute events focused on community building and showcasing OpenAI’s culture and commitment to creating technology that benefits all of humanity. This includes supporting high-touch community and white-glove events, panel discussions, and networking receptions at domestic and international locations.

We are excited to meet those who love technology and the positive impact it can have on humanity – and are energized by bringing their authentic personality to their work.

This role is based in Tokyo. Regular business travel may be required for this role.

In this role, you will:

  • Oversee the planning, execution, and management of OpenAI events in Japan, ensuring they align with OpenAI’s mission and brand.

  • Leverage your deep knowledge of Japanese culture and event nuances to create culturally relevant and impactful events – and strategize how to expand existing programs into the Japanese market.

  • Project manage high-touch events for community members, government officials, and key industry leaders in Japan. You’ll bring together various business partners, each with unique goals, and will drive progress toward a unified strategy.

  • Manage industry-leading and high-visibility events from top to bottom, setting measurable event goals, budget plans, and logistics workbacks.

  • Secure vendors for events, from researching potential partners to managing the detailed workflow of contracts.

  • Organize attendee information and manage processes for registration and travel.

  • Working with our Design team, ensure guests have an excellent impression of OpenAI through event communications and measured designs.

  • Manage post-event follow up, including gathering feedback and evaluating event success.

You might thrive in this role if you:

  • Are fluent in both English and Japanese

  • Have excellent English and Japanese writing skills

  • Have 8+ years managing and producing a number of high-profile events in both the US and Tokyo in partnership with senior leaders.

  • Have managed Japanese workstreams and experiences for a US-based company, bridging the cultural gap between the US and Japan when working on cross-functional projects.

  • Are excited about strengthening an existing company reputation and sense of collaboration through events.

  • Have a deep interest in artificial intelligence.
