We are looking for an autonomous, strategic, and flexible Legal Counsel who will thrive in a high-pressure, high-stakes environment. This role will handle deal negotiations for the Asia-Pacific data and digital media practice and provide practical and business-focused guidance and support to the internal business stakeholders. This is a role where you’ll report to the Lead Legal Counsel (APAC), partner with the rest of the legal team working across the globe and collaborate with counterparts in other functions (e.g. Finance, HR, Tax, IT/Data and Growth teams).

This position can be performed from the Sydney, Singapore or Seoul office.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Draft, review and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements to support sales, marketing, and operations. Your primary focus will be on our MSAs, Statements of Work, Data Processing Agreement, RfPs, NDAs and third-party agreements.
  • Work with clients and internal teams to negotiate commercial terms to align with company policies and objectives as well as mitigate potential risks involved with specific contract terms.
  • Work collaboratively with the APAC legal team to create, update and roll out contract policies and commercial/legal strategies to ensure the support of the business as it scales.
  • Proactively identify new projects and goals needed to improve the legal function and work to accomplish them.
  • Assist with post-merger integration of newly acquired businesses as related to commercial processes as well as ad-hoc corporate matters for our APAC entities.
  • Collaborate with functional counterparts to manage issues related to data, privacy and other matters as well as provide guidance and support to the global legal team.
  • Create, maintain, and update internal contract templates to reflect changes in the company’s business and the legal landscape as well as create and deliver internal training on commercial and legal processes and concepts.
  • Stay current on relevant industry, commercial, IP, privacy, data, employment, and other laws, regulations, and developments to adapt our commercial processes accordingly.
  • Help manage our legal administration to keep our day-to-day legal practices up-to-date.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3-5+ years experience working as an in-house counsel or at an international or local law firm (preferably Sydney, Singapore or Seoul).
  • Qualified lawyer in good standing admitted to practice in a qualified jurisdiction.
  • Demonstrated experience in online advertising technologies, content and digital media is preferred.
  • Experience in privacy, intellectual property, HR and general corporate law is a huge plus.
  • Must be fluent in English; ability to also work in Korean and/or Japanese (written and verbal) is highly regarded, but not mandatory.
  • You are culturally aware and adaptable to working with colleagues across APAC.
