As our first market research hire, you will lead OpenAI’s efforts to unpack our brand presence, understand our diverse audience segments better and provide deep insights about the market trends. Working with cross functional internal teams and research partners, you will build the roadmap for our market research as well as provide strategic direction and actionable paths forward that OpenAI can take to better connect our experience to what our users need. This role is crucial driving informed decision-making within marketing, but also across the entire organization.
In this role you willAct as a thought leader and advocate for research and insights internally, championing understanding users and the market as a whole at a research-centric organization.
Lead the design, implementation, and analysis of global brand tracking studies across multiple audience segments to monitor brand health and performance, and provide strategic direction for the brand & business.
Develop comprehensive research plans and pilot research instruments that provide innovative ways for OpenAI to gather insights on brand perception, market trends, sentiment analysis etc.
Conduct message testing to evaluate the effectiveness of brand communications and optimize messaging strategies.
Collaborate with cross-functional research teams to integrate brand insights into our product experience and reputation-building work, supporting and advising their efforts where needed, and integrating reputational insights into our brand-building work.
Create and present research reports that translate our findings and strategic recommendations to senior leadership and internal key stakeholders.
Distinguish “signal from noise” in the research, with the expertise to identify red flags, watchouts, inconsistencies or errors based on business needs.
Stay updated on industry trends, competitive landscape, and emerging research methodologies to continuously improve how we understand our audience.
Manage relationships with external research vendors and contractors, and ensure the quality and timeliness of deliverables.
Manage our “research stack” of tools and instrumentation, both internally and externally to drive high-quality user research.
10+ years of experience in brand research, market research, or a related field.
Proven expertise in designing and managing research instruments, initiatives and teams.
Strong analytical skills and proficiency in using statistical software and research tools
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex data into simple, clear, actionable insights.
Experience in collaborating with cross-functional teams and influencing decision-making at all levels of the organization.
A deep understanding of brand strategy, marketing principles, and consumer behavior and the technology trends that influence them.
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Marketing, Business, Psychology, or a related field.
You are a strategic thinker with a passion for understanding rapidly evolving consumer behavior and brand dynamics.
You have a sharp eye for detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality research outputs.
You are proactive, adaptable, and able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
You understand fast-paced growth dynamics and easily build strong relationships with stakeholders as the company evolves.
Experience hiring, managing, and growing a research team.
