Member of Technical Staff, Data Scientist / Statistician

Palo Alto, CA

Inflection AI is a public benefit corporation leveraging our world class large language model to build the first AI platform focused on the needs of the enterprise.

Who we are:

Inflection AI was re-founded in March of 2024 and our leadership team has assembled a team of kind, innovative, and collaborative individuals focused on building enterprise AI solutions. We are an organization passionate about what we are building, enjoy working together and strive to hire people with diverse backgrounds and experience.

Our first product, Pi, provides an empathetic and conversational chatbot. Pi is a public instance of building from our 350B+ frontier model with our sophisticated fine-tuning (10M+ examples), inference, and orchestration platform. We are now focusing on building new systems that directly support the needs of enterprise customers using this same approach.

About the Role

As a Data Scientist / Statistician, you’ll be one of the first hires focused on building the evaluation and experimentation frameworks for a brand-new enterprise ML product. Your work will guide how we understand model behavior, user impact, and product reliability—applying statistical rigor to every stage of development, from early experimentation to live A/B testing.

You’ll work closely with engineers and ML researchers to define what good looks like, how we measure it, and how we improve.

This is a good role for you if you:

  • Have strong expertise in applied statistics, experimentation, and measurement design.
  • Have worked in environments where model quality, safety, or user outcomes must be measured reliably and systematically.
  • Are comfortable designing and analyzing experiments (A/B, multivariate, sequential, etc.) and know how to interpret real-world results.
  • Can write analysis code in Python (pandas, NumPy, statsmodels, etc.) and communicate insights clearly across teams.
  • Are excited to shape foundational metrics, benchmarks, and evaluation processes for an ML product from the ground up.

Responsibilities include:

  • Designing experiments and evaluations to measure model safety, quality, and user value.
  • Defining success metrics and building measurement frameworks that guide iteration and decision-making.
  • Partnering with ML researchers to evaluate fine-tuning and alignment techniques through both quantitative and qualitative metrics.
  • Building internal tools and dashboards to track and visualize key signals across model and product performance.
  • Bringing statistical rigor to how we build, test, and improve enterprise-grade AI systems.
  • Designing a user interface for non-technical users to explore and interpret complex datasets related to logistics and supply chain management.
  • Develop interactive and dynamic visualizations to highlight interesting aspects of the data.
