THE ROLE: We are a cutting-edge firmware-focused team, committed to developing leading-edge Server/Data Center (DC) CPU and AI & ML Accelerators. The team is passionate about SoC level firmware and AI/ML Accelerator firmware development from architectural concept development through customer production. We are searching for an energetic experienced engineer to work on our highly talented team of SoC firmware architects to design and collaborate with firmware development and QA teams. As well as other teams of silicon design and architecture across all domains of the SoC. Successful candidates will develop and manage world-class firmware, innovate, improve, and work with the advanced processes to deliver high-quality firmware powering tomorrow’s data center compute needs. THE PERSON: We are looking for an energetic engineer mutually supportive with critical and deep thinking and relentless determination. A successful candidate should be self-motivated, result-driven, detail orientated, critical problem-solving, capable of handling tasks under a tight schedule. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: • Lead the FW design and system architecture, ensuring compatibility with hardware architectures and meeting system requirements. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware engineers, software/FW developers, and validation engineers to define firmware specifications. • Implement security best practices in the firmware and virtualization solutions. • Design and implement security features to protect against firmware-level vulnerabilities and cyber threats. • Document design specifications, architecture diagrams, and implementation details. • Operate with a mindset of continuous improvement, delivering year over year efficiencies and quality improvements. • Innovate and differentiate through firmware to delight customers and secure AMD’s position as the vendor of choice for data center and enterprise deployments. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: • 10+ years’ experience in firmware architecture and development • In-depth knowledge on server and data center system architecture, and system boot process, initialization sequence, firmware interfaces, OS, and secure boot mechanisms • Proficiency in C, and C++ • Strong problem-solving skills. • Strong leadership skills. • Experience with computer architecture. • Experience embedded firmware and/or device driver development. • Experience with board, processor, or ASIC bring-up. • Experience with JTAG debuggers. • Experience with source control systems such as git. • Experience in hardware/software interfaces and debugging sophisticated issues in CPU and firmware using JTAG, source code debuggers and other tools. • Excellent communications skills: verbal, written, and interpersonal. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: • Familiarity with security principles, and cryptography • Familiarity with Design for test methodologies. • Experience working on server platforms. • Experiences working with RTOS and other embedded OS environments. • Experience with pre-silicon development on FPGAs or simulation environments. • Experience with DDR, SPI, eSPI, I2C, LPC, or PCIe. • An understanding of assembly level instruction sets. • An understanding of microprocessor architecture including memory management units, interrupt delivery, multithreaded development. • Experience with technologies such as Secure Boot, TPM, AES, DES, RSA, AMD Secure Memory Encryption, AMD Secure Encrypted Virtualization. • Well versed in software engineering practices. • Ability to work independently under tight deadlines, responding to changing business and technical conditions with minimal direction. Your base pay will depend on where your skills, qualifications, experience, and location fit into the hiring range for the position.
