Role Summary:
As our US contract legal counsel (based in SF or NY), under the responsibility of the General Counsel based in France, and in collaboration with technical and business teams, especially the SF based US manager, you will be instrumental in structuring, drafting and negotiating our contracts, agreements and terms with potential suppliers, partners and clients.
You will also have an instrumental role in the ramp-up and maintenance of our compliance in the emerging regulations around Al and their coherence with our contractual network. 

Key responsibilities:
Draft, negotiate, and provide strategic advice on a wide range of contracts, including but not limited to, AI licensing agreements, complex partnerships, and other AI-related service agreements.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including AI engineers, data scientists, and product managers, in close partnership with business teams to ensure legal and regulatory compliance in the deployment of AI technologies.
Stay updated on the latest AI-related legal and regulatory developments, and provide guidance to the organization on potential risks and opportunities.
Provide training and support to the business on legal and compliance matters related to AI.
US compliance awareness and advice (you would be the first US lawyer at Mistral AI)Help on other legal topics as needed (labor law, corporate, especially under US rules, etc.)

Qualifications and skills:
Educational Background: Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school in the USA. Admission to practice law in at least one state in the USA. California or NY would be a plus. 
Knowledge of Artificial Intelligence: A solid understanding of artificial intelligence technologies, including machine learning, natural language processing and their applications is essential. Strong knowledge of the relevant area of law, such as data privacy, intellectual property and fair use, contract law and liability, regulatory, compliance and ethical considerations.
Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze complex legal and technical issues related to AI and to identify potential legal risks and solutions is important. Candidates should be detail-oriented and have strong problem-solving skills.
Communication Skills: Excellent negotiation skills. Excellent written and verbal communication; Strong ability to communicate legal advice to clients and colleagues, and presenting complex legal concepts in a clear and understandable manner. Business oriented.
International mindset: An international experience is a plus. 
Adaptability: Given the rapidly evolving nature of AI technologies and the legal landscape surrounding them, candidates should be adaptable and willing to continuously learn and update their skills and knowledge. Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. Proactive, flexible, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Ethical Awareness: A strong understanding of ethical considerations related to AI, such as fairness, transparency, accountability, and bias mitigation, is important.
Experience: a minimum of 8-10 years of relevant legal experience, preferably in a related technology or AI-focused environment.
