About the role

We’re looking for someone who’s excited to play an intimate and critical role in shaping the direction of Inflection, focusing on understanding how people use and get value from Pi. This position is hands-on and offers significant partnership with leadership. From market discovery research to rigorous survey work focused on understanding our current users and the category at large, you’ll execute research closely with Product, Design, Data Science, Marketing and Eng that leads to actionable strategies. You’ll be part of the end-to-end journey of how we solve “personal AI” for everyone.

You are:

  • Humble, hungry, and driven by the work.
  • A passionate individual contributor who thrives on collaboration.
  • A research expert - you have a strong command of mixed methods, but with a strong quantitative lean.

In the role, you’ll:

  • Be a strategic peer in making business-level decisions.
  • Partner with our first researcher to set the vision for how research impacts and influences all corners of the Inflection team’s ways of working and our product, Pi.
  • Develop and run recurring tracking surveys to support both foundational user understanding, marketing, product, and even our LLM teams. This will include brand and category tracking surveys, as well as current user satisfaction surveys. All of this will be done with creativity to maximize the ways survey work can impact as many Inflection teams as possible.
  • Develop and run ad-hoc, foundational surveys to understand all manners of foundational questions about our current user and non-user communities to illuminate key, strategic user needs and untapped market opportunities. This work will range in impact from grounding our team in what we know about our users to prioritizing what we build next.
  • Partner with our research team to create a unified body of foundational insights, working across all manners of qualitative and quantitative data sources (surveys, log data, etc).
  • Influence how we surface insights from existing user data, particularly in rich, nuanced conversations of users and AI, and build out the process for doing so. This involves collaboration with data engineering, log teams, data science and more.
  • You’ll flex. Though this role seeks a quantitative subject matter expert, the team is small and at times, you’ll step in to support qualitative research work like usability tests, discovery research, and other evaluation methods to either guide active product initiatives or influence future ones. You know how to do this with hustle, or at scale depending on need.
  • Collaborate closely with product, designers, and engineers to integrate research insights into product strategy, marketing, and roadmaps.
  • Present and evangelize research findings to internal teams and stakeholders in an engaging, focused, and actionable manner.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Statistics, Cognitive Science, or related field. Equivalent experience is also acceptable.
  • 6+ years of experience in user research.
  • Experience in early-stage or nimble consumer-facing tech companies.
  • Expertise in quantitative methods including survey research (sampling, design, analysis), segmentation, brand tracking, concept testing. Proficient in qualitative methods like usability testing, 1-1 interviewing, etc.
  • Strong experience in statistical analysis (R, SPSS) and proficiency in SQL.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate complex concepts clearly and effectively.

Where We Work

We have offices in Palo Alto and London. We’re currently hiring into our brand new office in Palo Alto. We’re in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Inflection believes in building a strong in-person work culture with the flexibility of focus time at home.

About Inflection

We are a small, friendly and multi-disciplinary AI studio creating a personal AI for everyone. Our first AI is called Pi, for personal intelligence, a supportive and empathetic conversational AI. Our studio is made up of the world's leading AI developers, creative designers, writers and innovators working together in a deeply multidisciplinary style to create a brand new class of digital experiences.

How We Work

We value excellence and ownership. Our organizational structure focuses on individual responsibilities rather than management hierarchies. Everyone is expected to lead by doing. We are big believers in the unreasonable effectiveness of highly talented Individual Contributors who are given all the resources, space and ownership to move fast and deliver outstanding results.

Teamwork and generosity are at our core. Our culture celebrates positive challenges, asking questions, learning and actively supporting one another. This mentality of shared respect and purposeful teamwork is key to our success. We equally value all technical and non-technical contributions.

Constructive disagreement is essential. We appreciate when team members challenge assumptions, put forward new ideas, or encourage us to move faster or slower. Openness, honesty and kindness make us great.

Feedback is our ground truth. We have a tight feedback loop between the user experience and our AI creation process. Quantitative and qualitative data drives our priorities. This goes for internal culture too. Everyone has ownership and visibility into key decisions and progress.

Writing creates accountability. Whether on internal communication tools or in team memos, we are strong communicators with a special focus on the written word.

We deeply value time to reset outside of work. We encourage one another to constantly take time to recharge and always focus on maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

Engineering at Inflection

We are a vertically integrated AI studio. This means that our entire technology stack – from large foundational model pre-training to the user interface – is built in-house, with each of the components co-optimized to deliver the best AI experiences. We have built one of the most advanced large language models in the world, based on multiple novel and proprietary innovations.

We believe in scale as the engine of progress in AI, and we are building one of the largest supercomputers in the world to develop and deploy the new generation of AIs.

We wear multiple hats and don’t distinguish between engineering and research. We continuously explore and exploit, creating new and perfecting existing techniques and solutions. User feedback is our North Star.

Our Benefits

We offer generous benefits to ensure a positive, safe, inclusive and inspiring work environment for all Inflectioneers.

  • Physical office space in Palo Alto and London, along with reimbursements for work from home expenses and co-working spaces
  • Unlimited paid time off
  • Parental leave and flexibility for all parents and caregivers
  • Generous medical, dental and vision plans for US employees
  • Compliance with country-specific benefits for non-US employees
  • Visa sponsorship for new hires
  • Avenues for personal growth such as coaching, conference attendance, or specific trainings

We are building personal AIs that we hope will serve everyone. We are deeply committed to representing the full extent of the human experience inside our AI Studio.
