You will join a team developing state-of-the-art general-purpose robots designed to operate in human spaces and with human tools. It is designed to work alongside humans, mobilize to human spaces, and manipulate the world around it.

JOB SUMMARY

The Perception team is looking for a Senior SLAM Engineer who will be responsible for SLAM R&D. The ideal candidate will have experience with SLAM R&D, different sensor modalities such as lidar and RGBD cameras and SLAM map management and sharing. You will get a chance to collaborate with autonomy and navigation engineers to improve Apollos navigation capabilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES or KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Perform simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) R&D
  • Be involved in the full software development life cycle of SLAM, from planning to maintenance
  • Stay current with latest advancements in SLAM, perception and robotics
  • Evaluate and integrate new sensing modalities into the SLAM stack
  • Collaborate with a cross functional team of engineers to iterate and improve the SLAM system design and capabilities
  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate architecture & design documentation
  • Follow best practices for reproducible research and code development
  • Represent and lead with Apptronik's core values: CHIPC - Curiosity, Humility, Integrity, Passion, Creativity

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • M.S. or Ph.D. (preferred) degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in SLAM
  • Strong C++ & Python programming skills
  • Experience with map management & map sharing.
  • Experience with different sensor modalities
  • Experience with obstacle avoidance, sensor fusion and state estimation techniques
  • Nice to have experience with collaborative SLAM
  • Solid understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and agile methodologies.
  • Experience developing and debugging real-time, multithreaded software systems
  • Rapid, real-world hardware experimentation and troubleshooting abilities
  • Ability to independently research difficult open-ended problems and come to a working solution
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to work effectively across teams and stakeholders.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • M.S. or Ph.D. (preferred) degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience with SLAM, obstacle avoidance, sensor fusion and state estimation techniques
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, version control systems (Git), and automated testing frameworks is preferred.
