Who We Are
Nuro exists to better everyday life through robotics. Founded in 2016, Nuro has spent eight years developing autonomous driving (AD) technology and commercializing AD applications. The Nuro Driver™ is our world-class autonomous driving system that combines AD hardware with our generalized AI-first self-driving software. Built to learn and improve through data, the Nuro Driver™ is one of the few driverless autonomous technologies on public roads today.
Nuro has raised over $2B in capital from Fidelity, Bailie Gifford, T. Rowe Price, Google, and other leading investors. We’ve partnered with some of the world’s most respected brands including Uber, FedEx, Domino’s, Walmart, Kroger, and 7-Eleven.
About the Role
As a Senior/Staff Systems Engineer in Autonomy Validation, you will work closely with the autonomy software, operations, simulation, and data platform teams to validate system performance. You will be responsible for identifying through analysis and testing any risks resulting from functional insufficiency. You will ensure that these risks are managed and tested appropriately, driving software architecture and development, engineering roadmaps, validation, on-road operations, and the safety case.
About the Work
- Support the safety case by identifying, documenting, and communicating Autonomy safety claims and decomposed system requirements.
- Apply one or more analytical techniques for risk identification such as Hazards and Risk Analysis (HARA) and STPA.
- Design experiments and perform trade studies to assess adequacy and cost of competing technical solutions for substantiating safety claims, including but not limited to autonomy architecture, mitigations, and end-to-end testing; make strategic recommendations based on the results.
- Identify and design realistic scenarios to measure residual safety risks and drive test coverage, including synthetic third-party accident reconstructions.
- Communicate effectively in a cross-functional product development team and present risks and requirements effectively.
About You
- Deep understanding of how robotic systems work and ability to leverage this knowledge to build requirements and tests for autonomous vehicles.
- Experience writing safety claims and system requirements for SAE L2/L3/L4 systems to operate safely.
- Working knowledge of and ability to apply systems engineering concepts of requirements, verification and validation.
- Experience with ISO 21448 and familiarity with ISO 8800.
- Strong Python programming and algorithmic problem-solving skills.
- Highly collaborative in nature with strong abilities to think and communicate analytically and effectively.
- Strong communication skills - both verbal and written.
- Self starter and fast learner - you should be passionate about picking up new skills and approaching unstructured problems from first principles.
- Must be self-motivated to prioritize and manage workload and meet critical project deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build good working relationships.
