As Aurora transitions into product launch and scale mode, we are seeking professionals with strong product-focused software engineering skills, particularly those that have demonstrated experience and success working in product companies at scale. As a Software Engineer II you will play a role in building the technical foundation that will help us accomplish our mission of delivering the benefits of self-driving safely, quickly, and broadly.
The Software Engineer II role at Aurora provides the opportunity to make key contributions in one or more of the following focal areas. When applying, please select the area that most aligns with your experiences and future goals. This role may focus on one of the four following focal areas:
C++ Software Engineering
In this focal area, you will add to your foundational experience in software design and make meaningful coding contributions to work involving algorithm-leaning software engineering. Strong proficiency in C++ programming is a requirement for this focal area. Python programming experience, and experience writing fault tolerant, robust code is a plus.
Software Engineer, Infrastructure
Aurora is seeking engineers to help us build and scale state-of-the-art infrastructure that powers Autonomous Vehicles with amazing levels of safety, performance and reliability. Experience designing and implementing services in Go, Python, or C++ is a requirement for this focal area, as is experience building and shipping high quality work and achieving high reliability while improving quality through thoughtful code reviews, appropriate testing, proper rollout, monitoring, and proactive changes. Applicants should have experience with AWS or other major cloud platforms, as well as Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD Pipelines and Containers/ Kubernetes.
Embedded Firmware Engineering
Our Embedded Software team creates applications for the multitude of custom hardware devices designed by our electrical engineers. We employ (and sometimes define) state-of-the-art development techniques to create robust, reliable systems with amazing levels of safety and performance. To be considered for this focal area, applicants must possess knowledge of both high- and low-level communication protocols, from I2C and SPI to CAN and IP-based Protocols, have experience with low-level RTOS (such as FreeRTOS), and have excellent skills in C or C++ programming. Python and software design skills are a bonus (expertise in other languages welcome), as well as a basic knowledge of electrical engineering fundamentals to support low level debugging.
Front-end / Web Tools
Front-end / Web Tools Engineers help build developer productivity tools that accelerate web development across the company. To be considered for this focal area, you’ll have experience building web applications and a proficiency in TypeScript and React (or at least one of the following: Javascript, Angular, Vue.js, Svelte, Solid), as well as experience creating reusable components, libraries and shared frameworks and tools that improve developer productivity.
Required Qualifications:
- 3+ years of professional, post-education software development experience
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
- Programming and design proficiency
- Industry experience building software in a production environment
- Ability to and advocacy for writing clean, maintainable code and implementing unit tests
- Adaptability to learn AV and robotics systems as needed
The base range for this position is $126,000-$201,000. Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.
