AMD together we advance_ THE ROLE: The AI GPU Software (AGS) Libraries team develops performance optimized GPU libraries for high performance computing and machine learning workloads as part of the AMD Radeon Open Ecosystem (ROCm). As manager, you will lead a team of data science and machine learning experts. Your team takes a data-driven approach to measuring and analyzing performance and partners with the ROCm GPU library software teams to implement and optimize performance heuristics. You will collaborate with software and hardware architecture experts, combining data insights with first principles understanding, to holistically improve performance. THE PERSON: To be successful in this role, you will be a hands-on leader with strong technical skills and demonstrated success applying data science and machine learning techniques to solve real world problems. You are passionate about hiring and developing your team as well as planning and managing key engineering initiatives. You have outstanding people leadership skills to lead, motivate, and guide world class engineers working in a fast-paced, matrixed, global environment. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversee the management of data science and machine learning projects from inception to completion. Work closely with stakeholders to define project goals, requirements, deliverables and timelines. Apply Agile project management skills to lead the team in scoping, prioritizing, and executing data science and machine learning projects. Set clear goals for the team, track progress, and remove obstacles. Lead, manage, and coach highly technical data scientists and machine learning engineers, including identifying, recruiting, and onboarding new talent. Create a high-performing team and foster a culture of technical excellence, continuous improvement, and collaborative problem-solving within the team. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Deep understanding of data science/machine learning techniques and building/managing predictive and optimization models. Breadth of knowledge on MLops, designing AI pipelines from data preprocessing to model deployments, to ensure systematic and repeatable model performance. Strong leadership background with proven ability to manage data science and machine learning teams in fast-paced environments. Previous experience managing people, including conflict resolution, performance management, talent evaluation, and effective coaching across diverse skill levels. Proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a cross-functional, problem-solving environment. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, facilitate meetings, and build consensus. Understanding of computer architecture, especially GPU architecture, as well as understanding of GPU programming models. ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS: B.Sc. or B.Eng. degree in data science, statistics, computer science, engineering, or equivalent.
