Figure is an AI Robotics company developing a general purpose humanoid. Our Humanoid is designed for corporate tasks targeting labor shortages and jobs that are undesirable or unsafe. We are based in Sunnyvale, CA and require 5 days/week in-office collaboration.
We are looking for a Staff Battery Engineer to lead the design of battery pack mechanical systems, specifically thermal runaway protection, structural case design, high current electrical conductor design, and cooling system design.
Responsibilities:
- Drive cross-functional alignment on battery requirements for future Figure robots
- Create and execute a schedule for Figure battery development
- Design a battery system for a humanoid robot, including electrical connections, mechanical connections, thermal interfaces, and safety
- Work closely with electrical and thermal analysis engineers to make sure the battery pack satisfies all requirements.
- Schedule and review results from testing on the battery pack, including structural durability, thermal characterization, and thermal runaway
Requirements:
- 7+ years of experience in battery mechanical design especially in design for battery safety, experience with cell characteristics, and materials used in battery design (potting, insulation, venting, cell to cell welding)
- Experience with high volume manufacturing processes
- Experience with battery testing (mechanical, thermal, electrical, and safety)
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical, Robotics, Mechatronics, or similar field
- Experienced in using 3D CAD software to design parts with complex geometry
- Experience designing and building prototypes
- Ability to write and maintain clean documentation for your design process
Bonus Qualifications:
- Experience with high volume manufacturing processes
- Experience working with contract manufacturers
- Experience with laser welding battery cells
- Experience creating 3D CAD models, especially in CATIA V6
