Helsing is a defence AI company. Our mission is to protect our democracies. We aim to achieve technological leadership, so that open societies can continue to make sovereign decisions and control their ethical standards.
As democracies, we believe we have a special responsibility to be thoughtful about the development and deployment of powerful technologies like AI. We take this responsibility seriously.
We are an ambitious and committed team of engineers, AI specialists and customer-facing programme managers. We are looking for mission-driven people to join our European teams – and apply their skills to solve the most complex and impactful problems. We embrace an open and transparent culture that welcomes healthy debates on the use of technology in defence, its benefits, and its ethical implications.
We’re looking for a Technical Delivery Lead to work closely with one of our incredible product teams and own all aspects of both delivery and customer integration for one of our prestige projects.
Working closely with senior stakeholders of the project within both Helsing and our external partners and sub-contractors, your role will involve collaboratively designing the technical architecture of the project based on components produced and maintained by the product team; owning the internal technical implementation and integration roadmap and ensuring that the end-users of the project enjoy an excellent and cohesive experience with the platform.
Whilst much of the role involves dynamic collaboration and effective communication with many different types of people, it also has a lot of capacity for moments of individual contribution too; if something isn’t quite right or meets your standards, you should feel completely empowered to dive into the code and fix or change it.
No two days as a Technical Delivery Lead at Helsing are the same and you may find yourself doing any (or all!) of the below on a day-to-day basis:
-
Planning & Updating the project roadmap and ensuring the product teams are aligned on the requirements and priorities.
-
Jumping straight into unfamiliar repositories to (for example) find out why one of your services API documentation is being published slowly.
-
Understanding and communicating what is required to take systems and tools from the core product team and customise them for your projects specific use case.
-
Collaborating closely with external partners via working groups, design authorities and ad-hoc emails.
-
Maintaining and building close relationships with the non-technical programme side of the project and ensuring their kept up-to-date on progress and any blockers have been adequately raised.
-
Troubleshooting and/or guiding the platform’s initial Users and distilling their feedback into improvements for future product iterations.
-
Want to own the technical delivery and direction of a key European defence project at its earliest stage.
-
Have a strong technical background, but want to use your skills to deliver and guide a project at a level not possible via individual contributions alone.
-
Feel energised by the idea of collaborating with existing industry incumbents to deliver a coherent and robust platform.
-
Are not afraid to lead by example; if something is broken, you dive straight into the code to fix it.
-
Take a Product focused mindset to delivery and want to built the most useful platform, not just the most ‘technically elegant’ one.
-
Are comfortable with ambiguity and flexible to changing demands and priorities, which can change frequently as new Users onboard to the platform.
-
Enjoy engaging with stakeholders of all kinds, translating complex technical topics into easy to understand blocks. Note: The above bullet points describe the ideal candidate. None of us matched all of these at once when we first joined Helsing. We encourage you to apply even if you believe you meet only part of our wish list.
-
Significant experience with Rust and/or Python.
-
Experience maintaining, deploying to and interacting with OpenShift clusters.
-
Previous technical leadership experience, informally or otherwise.
-
Prior experience with building web-based front-ends with frameworks such as React.
-
Fluent German language skills.
Join Helsing and work with world-leading experts in their fields

Helsing’s work is important. You’ll be directly contributing to the protection of democratic countries while balancing both ethical and geopolitical concerns
-
The work is unique. We operate in a domain that has highly unusual technical requirements and constraints, and where robustness, safety, and ethical considerations are vital. You will face unique Engineering and AI challenges that make a meaningful impact in the world
-
Our work frequently takes us right up to the state of the art in technical innovation, be it reinforcement learning, distributed systems, generative AI, or deployment infrastructure. The defence industry is entering the most exciting phase of the technological development curve. Advances in our field of world are not incremental: Helsing is part of, and often leading, historic leaps forward
-
In our domain, success is a matter of order-of-magnitude improvements and novel capabilities. This means we take bets, aim high, and focus on big opportunities. Despite being a relatively young company, Helsing has already been selected for multiple significant government contracts

We actively encourage healthy, proactive, and diverse debate internally about what we do and how we choose to do it. Teams and individual engineers are trusted (and encouraged) to practise responsible autonomy and critical thinking, and to focus on outcomes, not conformity. At Helsing you will have a say in how we (and you!) work, the opportunity to engage on what does and doesn’t work, and to take ownership of aspects of our culture that you care deeply about

Competitive compensation and stock options
-
Relocation support
-
Social and education allowances
-
Regular company events and all-hands to bring together employees as one team across Europe
-
A hands-on onboarding program (affectionately labelled “Infraduction”), in which you will be building tooling and applications to be used across the company. This is your opportunity to learn our tech stack, explore the company, and learn how we get things done - all whilst working with other engineering teams from day one
