About the Role
As a Technical Revenue Accounting Manager, you’ll focus on high impact, complex, revenue recognition projects that elevate our accounting and reporting capabilities. You will analyze and implement the accounting treatment for revenue transactions, including non-standard revenue contracts, modifications, and new product offerings. You will also collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize financial outcomes related to revenue while maintaining adherence to accounting standards. Your role is crucial in supporting OpenAI’s growth and ensuring that our technical accounting practices are robust and scalable.
This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.
In this role, you will:
Review complex revenue arrangements to identify key terms and conditions that impact revenue recognition and deploy accounting for these transactions for month-end and quarter-end in a scalable manner.
Design and implement systems and processes to automate revenue recognition in alignment with revenue recognition policies and objectives.
Partner with the Deal Desk, Go-to-Market, and Strategic Finance teams to standardize and automate deal approvals to optimize revenue recognition while supporting sales initiatives.
Assist with the external audit process and participate in and/or lead ad hoc projects and initiatives with cross functional impacts.
You might thrive in this role if you have:
7+ years of comprehensive experience in accounting, including technical revenue experience.
Prior experience at a Big 4 public accounting firm in a managerial role.
Experience with both public and hyper-growth private SaaS companies.
In-depth knowledge of ASC 606 and experience applying revenue recognition principles in complex SaaS or technology arrangements.
Experience in implementing a revenue management software tool (e.g. Zuora Revenue, NetSuite ARM) for revenue recognition automation.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate to both finance and non-finance stakeholders and have managed and supported high-velocity, cross-functional teams on impactful projects.
Exceptional problem-solving capabilities, strategic thinking, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
CPA required (inactive status acceptable).
