Figure is an AI Robotics company developing a general purpose humanoid. Our Humanoid is designed for corporate tasks targeting labor shortages and jobs that are undesirable or unsafe. We are based in Sunnyvale, CA and require 5 days/week in-office collaboration.Ā
Figureās vision is to deploy autonomous humanoids at a global scale. Ā Our AI team is looking for Robot Simulation Engineers to empower Figure humanoid robots to robustly perform complex sequences of tasks to contribute real work in physical workplaces.Ā
Responsibilities:
- Own teleop of the Figure robot, including technical roadmap and use cases
- Evaluate different teleop strategies, including motion capture, VR, haptics, and puppeteering
- Design a teleop system for whole body manipulation and dexterous finger control
- Implement real-time retargeting algorithms for robust and intuitive teleop control
- Design scalable solutions that integrate with Autonomy, Controls, and Testing systems at Figure
- Oversee data collection operations
- Enable multiple uses of teleop, including:Ā
- collecting human demonstrations for imitation learning
- evaluating prototype humanoid designs for real-world use cases
- remote operation of a robot fleet
- Develop and use modern software engineering techniques to implement high quality, well-tested, real-time software
Requirements:
- Strong C++ skills for real-time systems
- Experience building high-rate VR/haptic teleop systems with force feedback for manipulation in real robot environments
- Strong background in API design, designing general purpose code that serves multiple teams
- Thrive in a high pace environment, where solutions are often unclear and require exploration
Bonus Qualifications:
- Publication record of developing and deploying robot teleop solutions
- Experience collecting teleop data for imitation learning
- Experience with 3D printing for fast, iterative hardware design
- Passionate about building humanoid robots
