The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and innovative VP, Information Security and Compliance to join Observe.AI in the Bay Area. You will play a crucial role in shaping and leading our information security strategy, ensuring the protection of our sensitive data, AI models, and systems.

The VP, Information Security and Compliance is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the organization’s security vision, strategy, and programs. This dynamic executive role involves leading proactive measures to protect all assets, information, and personnel from potential threats, both defined and undefined. The VP, Information Security and Compliance will collaborate closely with other executive team members to ensure a comprehensive security posture that aligns with the organization's objectives, balancing rapid product innovation with effective risk management. A key element of the VP, Information Security and Compliance's role will be working with executive management to determine acceptable levels of risk for the organization

What you’ll do day to day:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive information security program aligned with our business objectives and AI-focused technology stack. This includes assessing, prioritizing, and mitigating risks across the organization, with a focus on data protection, threat management and product features that protect customers.
  • Lead risk assessment and management processes, identifying potential vulnerabilities in our AI systems and customer data handling
  • Design and oversee security policies, procedures, and best practices for our organization, with a focus on AI and machine learning security
  • Collaborate closely with the CTO, engineering teams and product managers to integrate security measures into our AI and software development lifecycle
  • Collaborate with IT, legal, HR and other departments to ensure a unified and agile response to security threats, fostering cross-functional collaboration and alignment.
  • Manage security operations, including incident response, threat detection, and vulnerability management
  • Ensure compliance with relevant data protection regulations and industry standards (e.g., PCI DSS, HITRUST, ISO 27001, ISO 42001, GDPR, CCPA, SOC 2)
  • Build and lead a high-performing security team, fostering a culture of security awareness across the organization
  • Stay informed about emerging threats and technologies in AI and cybersecurity, adapting our security strategies accordingly
  • Communicate security risks, strategies, and performance to executive leadership and board of directors
  • Leadership and Empowerment: Provide leadership, direction, and guidance to the security team, fostering a culture of security awareness and continuous learning. Empower team members to take decisive action in response to uncertain threats.
  • Leverage advanced analytics to drive informed decision-making and prioritize security actions based on potential risk.
  • Develop, test, and lead incident response plans and exercises to ensure the organization is prepared for all potential security incidents, including undefined threats.
  • Foster a culture of security awareness through the development and delivery of regular training programs for employees, emphasizing agility in response to evolving threats.
  • Encourage innovative solutions to complex security challenges and promote a culture of continuous improvement through feedback loops and learning from experience.

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • Deep understanding of information security, risk management, and compliance. Previous experience leading a technical/engineering organization is strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of business operations and ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders, including board members and executives. 
  • Understanding of AI and other emerging technologies and their security implications, with the ability to develop strategies to mitigate associated risks.
  • Proven track record of building and scaling security programs in fast-paced, high-growth environments
  • Deep knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks, best practices, and emerging trends
  • Experience with cloud security, particularly in AWS, Azure, or GCP environments
  • Ability to communicate complex technical issues to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or equivalent
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or related field; Master's degree preferred
