About the Role
xAI is seeking a Network Development Engineer who is an expert in wireless networks, is proficient with OSPF, BGP, layer 2 protocols and uses python to make their job easier. You will be primarily responsible for designing and operating the data center wireless infrastructure that enables hundreds of people to build and operate the largest GPU clusters in the world. You will share knowledge with the team by creating detailed designs and runbooks for operations and deployments before automating away repetitive tasks. There will likely be times you help the corporate network team design the wireless network for new office locations
Secondly, you will help the team build and operate the front-end, training and other ancillary networks that exist inside and outside the data centers. There will be an on-call rotation that you will participate in with the rest of the team to ensure we keep as much usable compute online as possible for customers and researchers.
Location
The role is based in Memphis - Tennessee and there will be travel expected to Palo Alto for inter team collaboration.
Ideal Experiences
- At least 5 years experience designing and optimizing large scale wireless networks that span millions of square feet inside and outside of buildings.
- Deep experience RF survey, planning, deployment, optimization and operations.
- Deep knowledge of IEEE .11 standards and security protocols.
- 2-3 years of experience writing statement of work (SoW) documents, breaking down vendor bids and driving them to our desired outcomes in an expedited manner.
- Able to author python scripts that remove humans from executing repetitive cycles for deployments and operations activities.
- Deep knowledge and experience with troubleshooting common layer 1-3 network issues across different vendor technologies.
- Ability to thrive in ambiguity and be creative with short term solutions while permanent designs come to fruition.
Interview Process
After submitting your application, the team reviews your CV and statement of exceptional work. If your application passes this stage, you will be invited to an initial interview (45 minutes - 1 hour) during which a member of our team will ask some basic questions. If you clear the initial phone interview, you will enter the main process, which consists of four interviews:
- Coding assessment in a language of your choice.
- Wireless Network Design, Network Fundamentals and Troubleshooting
- Manager Interview
- Meet and greet with the wider team.
