THE ROLE:

The Graphics Advanced Architecture group is responsible for defining the next generation GPU architectures, performing critical Power and Performance Modeling analysis, and defining Advanced Graphics features for upcoming generations.

 

As the Sr. Program Manager/ Chief of Staff, you will be a technical and logistic support leader who will play a key role in supporting the VP driving various initiatives that are critical to all Graphics programs in the company. You will drive cross-functional teams, aligning all aspects of engineering and operation execution to meet the goals of the group
 

THE PERSON:

This individual will interact with AMD executives and the senior management and engineering teams, internal cross functional teams and possibly customers.

 

The Person should:

  • Have strong communication skills with the ability to help translate needs and requirements into actionable results
  • Have strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify potential issues and drive the team to solutions
  • Excel at prioritization, organization, and the ability to multitask.
  • Possess the desire to tackle additional responsibilities, and learn a number of business models and processes that are followed in the group
  • Be able to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Be able to track all the work being done in different workstreams across multiple programs and ensure things are moving smoothly
  • Ideally have background in Graphics Architecture, but this is not necessarily required 
  • Anticipate upcoming needs and make a case for it to management
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team atmosphere.
  • Be a self-starter and motivated person to be continually enhancing your skills to be aware of the latest development trends/skills.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new programming languages, frameworks, and paradigms.
  • Excellent communication skills – ability to help translate business needs into new requirements and deliverables.
  • Facilitate and define the agenda for Staff Meetings
  • Facilitate and drive monthly Operations meetings with internal groups
  • Provide updates for upper level management for Operations meetings
  • Have 1:1’s with all key members of the team on a weekly basis
  • Coordinate with all BU’s, Architects, SME’s and developer/user groups on requirements/features to drive consensus amongst the senior most technical leaders of the company
  • Document all requirements, scope and objectives, and assign priorities to ensure all decisions are adhered to
  • Provide resource scoping across all programs and update for new programs as they are introduced into the roadmap
  • Problem Solving – ability to identify key potential technical issues. Roll up your sleeves when in need to troubleshoot and drive team to derive optimal solutions.
  • Strong desire to learn technical aspects as well as business activities, and willing to take up additional responsibilities.
  • Willing to challenge requirements based on an understanding of prioritized objectives.
  • Willing to learn Graphics Architecture, Modeling and new AI/ML initiatives that the group is exploring
  • Use Project Management techniques to manage multiple programs that are in flow at the same time, track resource utilization and quality of work being delivered
  • The work is highly strategic in nature but hands-on work on tactical matters is definitely expected.
  • Facilitate and drive large technical meetings that involve requirements gathering and definition
  • Possesses a thorough knowledge of the principles or project management and is able to apply them effectively on small to large size projects
  • Possess and develop the acumen to accurately represent the needs of the group, and if critical requirements come up, address matters with the Graphics PMO
  • Must have a positive and “can do” attitude to jump in and solve problems proactively

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • This individual will work with engineering management to drive execution excellence, including key metrics - performance, schedule, cost, quality.
  • This individual will work collaboratively with the AMD Program Management community on continuous process improvement.
  • Ensure the team operates within budget and resource limitations
  • Ability to make any operational improvements, if needed, and understand how technology can be leveraged to accelerate operational improvements.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 

  • Background in Graphics architecture or design preferred
  • PMP designation is preferred but not required
  • Good hands-on experience in using Atlassian tools JIRA / Confluence / Azure Boards / Smartsheet.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially in Excel and PowerPoint and MS Project. MS Visio will be a plus as well.
  • Experience is required in managing large, complex, interrelated projects, programs, and/or functions.
  • Experience in large scale ASIC development, plus working knowledge across multiple engineering disciplines is highly desirable

ACADEMICS:

  • Masters degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or Computer Science preferred  
  • Bachelors degree in related
